About the State Plan

The purpose of the State Plan is to provide a framework for funding and planning for 1999-2004 in accordance with the Public Health Outcome Funding Agreement between the Commonwealth of Australia and the State of Victoria.

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable and curable cancers and is the eighth most common cancer in women in Australia. However, it has been demonstrated internationally that approximately 80-85 per cent of invasive cervical cancers, can be prevented via regular Pap smears every two years.
