Designing Care is a National Health Development Funded Statewide program
with clear focus on improving patient outcomes, improving the efficiency
and effectiveness of public hospital services and improving the integration
of care. The Designing
Care progam has a webpage on the Victorian Government Health Information
website.
The framework that has been developed for Designing Care is built on
the principles of:
- Quality improvement
- System thinking and organisational learning
- Business process re-engineering
- Breakthrough series
- Change management education and training
Designing Care aims to improve patient care by

Providing Chief Executives, Senior Clinicians and
managers with an opportunity to participate in international leading
change events including Leicester Royal Infirmary learning sessions.

Actively involving clinicians, management and consumers
in meaningful and sustainable work practice change that either indirectly
or directly improves patient care.

Providing processes for Victoria that enable clinicians,
management and where appropriate consumers to become personally involved
in re-designing services.

Providing on-going support of these processes with
an active group of practitioners and active learning from real examples
of success.

Successfully implementing real examples of process
re-design enabled through IT and the new IT platforms.

Giving clinicians, management and where appropriate
consumers the knowledge, skills and tools to be involved in the identification
of and implementation of real and meaningful improvement.

Evaluating the impact of Designing Care in terms
of improving patient care, reducing delays, reducing duplication
and patient and staff satisfaction.

Generating a culture that is comfortable with change
and seeks continuous improvement.
