Superclinics in Victoria

Archived 13 March 2007 - for historical purposes only - some links may not work

Welcome to the Super Clinics website

What are super clinics?

Super clinics are a significant initiative announced as part of the Government’s Hospitals for the Suburbs policy and an important component of the Metropolitan Health Strategy.

Super clinics will be able to treat you and your family members for a range of health conditions that require specialist medical care, but do not require an overnight stay in hospital.

Super clinics will provide a service that improve coordination and integration of health care by:

  • Focusing care on patients and those caring for them
  • Providing appropriate services close to home
  • Enabling health professionals to work in a team environment crossing traditional hospital and community barriers
  • Creating a facility that is supported by advanced technology

Budget

The Victorian Government allocated a total of $50million to develop super clinics in Lilydale, Craigieburn and Melton.

The 2004-2005 State Budget provided $8 million to commence the establishment of the three super clinics. This funding was used for land acquisition and development of detailed designs for the three super clinics. The 2005-2006 State Budget provided $42 million for construction of the super clinics.

All three sites have been selected to enable expansion of the super clinics in the future as these communities and their health care needs grow.  In addition, each site is large enough to allow the development of other related health care services to form “health precincts”.

Health Precincts

Health Precincts bring together, in the one area, a range of health and health related services to create a community hub for service delivery.

The range of services available at a health precinct will vary depending on the existing available services, and reflecting the needs of the local communities in Lilydale, Melton and Craigieburn.

Craigieburn Health Service

Construction is progressing well with the Craigieburn Health Service due for completion by the end of March 2007.  Services will commence in April 2007.
The Craigieburn Health Service is being built near the corner of Craigieburn Road (west) and Dorchester Road (opposite the Golf Course).
Northern Health is the managing agency and will provide many of the services.

Other services are being delivered in partnership with Melbourne Health (renal dialysis and mental health) and Dianella Community Health.

Melton Health is being built developed adjacent to the Woodgrove Shopping Centre. The site will front Barries Road, close to High Street.

Djerriwarrh Health Services, who also manage the Melton Community Health Centre, is the managing agency.

To provide an expanded range of services, Djerriwarrh Health Services is providing a number of the services as a joint venture with Western Health.
