Current legislationPage content: Introduction | Cemeteries Act & Regulations | National Competition Policy Reviews - Cemeteries Act 1958 IntroductionVictoria has a proud tradition of caring for its forebears in a system of public cemeteries. Our cemeteries and crematoria are publicly owned and self-funding and primarily administered by voluntary trusts, with some administered by local government. The Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2003, which commenced on 1 July 2005, governs the operations of Victoria’s cemetery and crematoria system. National Competition Policy Reviews - Cemeteries Act 1958The Victorian Government made a commitment to the Council of Australian Governments that Victorian legislation would be reviewed from a national competition policy perspective by the end of the year 2000. In accordance with that commitment this review examines the restrictions on competition in the Cemeteries Act 1958 ("the Act").
