National Design Initiatives

The Department of Health is a strong supporter of the work underway by the National E-Health Transition Authority (NEHTA) to enable the broad adoption of e-health in Australia. The material below provides information on the national e-health design initiatives undertaken by the department, through the HealthSMART Design Authority, and includes project deliverables relevant to the health sector.

The projects have a HealthSMART focus, though where feasible project deliverables have been prepared to be suitable for use beyond the HealthSMART program.

Projects

Individual Healthcare Identifer (IHI) Pre-Implementation Project

The IHI Pre-Implementation Project, a joint venture between the Department of Health and NEHTA, was tasked with developing artefacts to support the adoption of Individual Healthcare Identifiers by health services, health IT vendors and others through use of the Healthcare Identifiers (HI) Service.
