HealthSMART Services
Infrastructure
HealthSMART Services uses state of the art technology housed in the Whole of Victorian Government data centres and other locations to underpin HealthSMART application delivery. HealthSMART applications run primarily on servers from IBM and HP, using the Windows and UNIX operating systems. Currently HealthSMART Services supports over 1500 servers for production, non-production and disaster recovery services. Fujitsu manages most of the technology infrastructure for HealthSMART Services, including hardware failures. It remotely monitors the equipment on a 24x7 basis from separate sites. The extensive tools used to monitor the HealthSMART environment trigger alarms if manual intervention is required.
HealthNET is a high performance wide area network that utilises the Telstra network to connect agencies to the the primary and Disaster Recovery data centre. HealthNET has redundant links to each site which provides a highly reliable high bandwidth service.
Databases are primarily Oracle. Capabilities of products such as Citrix (for presentation) and VMWare (for virtualisation) are used for administrative efficiency, cost control and ease of use features such as the single sign-on portal.
The combination of the dual data centres, the high speed network and the server and storage technology enables a comprehensive disaster recovery capability for all HealthSMART applications supported by HealthSMART Services. This DR capability was extensively audited in 2008 and proven to be working reliably. HealthSMART Services regularly runs DR exercises with and without the involvement of the agencies, to ensure that the system continues to operate reliably.
