Subject: PBS co-payment and Safety Net threshold

Purpose: To advise hospitals of the PBS co-payment and Safety Net threshold for 2001


Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) co-payment and Safety Net threshold

The Commonwealth has advised that effective 1 January 2001: the new level of PBS patient co-payment for concessional patients is $3.50, and the new safety net threshold for concessional patients is $182.00.

Hospitals are advised that they may record $3.50 for every eligible supply to concessional patients from 1 January 2001. Fees for non-concessional patients ("general patients") are to remain at $15.00 per prescription item however the safety net threshold has increased to $669.70 per calendar year.
