Subject: Allied Health Professionals and Medical Scientists Enterprise Bargaining – Data Survey

The enterprise agreements for allied health professions and medical scientist designations employed in the public health services are due to expire at the end of March 2004 in line with the general nurses’ enterprise agreement.

A similar level of preparation and data analysis will be required by the Department, Treasury and Central Government agencies to establish a base position on the size and cost of the respective occupational workforces covered by these agreements. The data obtained from this survey will be used to estimate the cost of new proposals from either employers or unions.

Consistent with the co ordinating structures established by the Department for the nurses’ enterprise bargaining, the Department is establishing a similar representative arrangement for the allied health professionals’ and medical scientists’ bargaining round.

It is absolutely critical that all public health services with allied health employees and/or medical scientists that may be covered by an enterprise agreement complete all relevant sheets in the attached Excel workbook. A summary of the occupational groups covered by allied health professionals and medical scientists is attached to help you quickly identify the designations covered by this survey.

I understand that this may be an additional survey to those requested by the Department for the nurses’ enterprise bargaining round. I would appreciate your patience and cooperation with this process, so that the need to ask you to complete complex questionnaires covering this information at short notice is avoided.

The spreadsheets attached for your completion use a similar format to those developed for the nurses’ data collection. The nurses’ data collection was designed in consultation with representative public health service CEOs from both metropolitan and rural health services, the VHIA, and senior Departmental Executives.

Please complete the spreadsheets electronically and return them via email to Ms Susan Mountford (susan.mountford@dhs.vic.gov.au) by no later than Friday 28th November 2003. Ms Mountford can be contacted via email, if you have any queries about the process or the data collection.
