Subject: June 2004 Staffing Survey and 2004 Medical Workforce Survey
Attached are two surveys for completion by health services.
The June 2004 Staffing Survey seeks to ascertain the number and cost of staff employed by health services as at, or for the financial-year ending, 30 June 2004. This data is necessary to supplement the data provided to the Department by way of the payroll-based Minimum Employment Data Set (MDS).
The MDS is not presently sufficiently populated to provide the Department with key data required for the purposes of modelling costing and funding of Enterprise Bargaining and other industrial wages outcomes.
The 2004 Medical Workforce Survey will be used by the Department to obtain a snapshot of the size and composition of the broader hospital medical workforce. The information obtained will be used to develop workforce planning measures. The information will also be used for benchmarking purposes and may highlight areas requiring further study
The 2004 Medical Workforce Survey is to be completed on the basis of the medical workforce composition as it stands within a specific (fortnightly) pay period. As not all health services operate on the same pay period schedule, the survey should be completed based on data for the relevant pay period that includes 31 August 2004.
It is essential that health services complete both surveys and return them to the Department by no later than Friday 10 September 2004. Completed surveys should be returned to the Department by email to Mr Simon Chant (simon.chant@dhs.vic.gov.au).
