Public Hospital Charges – Changes

NHTP co-payment

The Department has been advised of a pension increase that becomes effective from 20 September 2006. Pensioners and beneficiaries will see increases from their first payday after that date. As a consequence the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing has revised the minimum statutory NHTP contribution.

The current amount will be increased to $37.30 per day under the Health insurance Act 1973. This represents 87.5% of the standard rate of the pension.

NHTP accommodation

As advised in Circular 8/2006, to bring Victoria’s charges into parity with other States, this will be increased incrementally during 2006/07.  Accordingly, from 20 September 2006 the rate will increase by a further $3 to $89.15

Public Hospitals should now update their NHTP co-payment and accommodation fees to reflect this change.
