1. PUBLIC HOSPITAL FEES - ADJUSTMENTS

1.1 Private Admitted Patients

The State Department of Human Services Victoria (DHS) has determined that the fees for 1999/2000 for private overnight stays and same day patients in public hospitals effective 1 July 1999, will increase from the 1998/99 level (ref: Acute Health Circular 10/98) by 1.2%. This represents the percentage change in CPI for the all groups weighted average of eight capital cities March 1998-99 quarters. If there are any further adjustments to these fees, you will be informed in the usual way by Hospital Circular.

1.2 Compensable admitted Patients (excluding WorkCover and TAC recipients)

DHS has increased these, effective 1 July 1999 until further notice, by 1.2% (ie the percentage change in CPI for the all groups weighted average of eight capital cities March 1998-99 quarters).

2. PROSTHESES SCHEDULE - AMENDMENTS

The Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care amendments to the 3 February 1999 Schedule of the Benefits Payable in Respect of Surgically Implanted Prostheses & Homograft Items are set out in the Circular HBF 565. These changes are effective from 12 April 1999.

The Commonwealth advised on 28 April 1999 that the following forms have been withdrawn and will not be available until further notice

4. HARD COPY DISTRIBUTION TO CEASE JULY 1999

Hard copy distribution of updates to the State’s Fees Manual and Acute Health Circulars relating to the State’s Fees Manual, will now cease. The Acute Health Circular No. 3/99 gave hospitals notice that hard copy circulars relating to the State’s Fees Manual would cease in July 1999. Public hospital CEOs are required to ensure their hospitals have computer equipment and training (or alternate arrangements in exceptional circumstances only) in place by then as detailed in Circular 3/1999.

This is therefore the last hard copy version of Acute Health Circulars relating to the State’s Fees Manual, and attached are the last hard copy updates to the State’s Fees Manual.

Updates to the Fees and Charges for Acute Health Services in Victoria: A Handbook for Public Hospitals in accordance with instructions below:

All future Acute Health Hospital Circulars can be found on the Fees Manual website.

Everyone including public hospitals with access to E-Mail can be automatically notified of each change to the State’s Fees Manual and Acute Health Hospital Circulars related to the Fees Manual. If you wish to be so notified you need to take the following action:

  1. If you are located within Department offices (Head Offices, Regional Offices) please ring Ms Kellie Postlethwaite, Office of the Director, Acute Health on telephone (03) 9616- 8073.
  2. Everyone else (eg public hospital staff): please forward your name, title, organisation, work address and E-Mail address to kellie.postlethwaite@dhs.vic.gov.au

These two separate mailing lists above are for technical capacity reasons only. The service is the same.
