Preface
In 1993 a group of mental health services staff and General Practitioners
(GPs) in North-West Melbourne began talking about ways of working together.
Following some funding support, a model of collaborative practice that
combines consultation and liaison practice with continuing shared care
was developed by psychiatrists, case mangers and GPs, also with consumer
and carer involvement. Over several years this model has been developed,
refined and evaluated. Other services nationally have adopted elements
of practice from the model.
The acronym CLIPP, describing the service and the model developed, has
stood for Consultation - Liaison in Primary-care Psychiatry
The model aims to provide a set of procedures to support meeting of needs
of GPs, Area Mental Health Services (AMHS), and through these, those of
the consumers and carers. The framework is of a set of integrated and
balanced transactions. This manual will set out the framework and procedures
devised in the development of the model.
To enhance the understanding of the CLIPP program, this manual guides
various participants through the steps necessary to implement and support
the model. However, readers are encouraged to read other segments, at
least to review the key points, as each of the various roles defined in
the model has some interface with the others.
