Collaboration between Public
and Private Sector Psychiatry - 2000 (PDF file 483KB) (Archived
28 Oct 2010)
The relationship between public mental health services and the private
mental health sector is a key strategic alliance. About two thirds of
psychiatrists have their main job in the private sector, and for the
benefit of consumers, it is important that we foster closer collaboration
between public mental health services and private psychiatrists. The
benefits can include improved access to services for consumers, improved
care for rural Victorians, and the opportunity for psychiatrists in
both sectors to expand their areas of practice.
Collaborative
Service Arrangements: Private Psychiatrists and Public Mental Health Services
- June 1996 (PDF file 26KB) (Archived

This booklet aims to develop collaborative service arrangements between
private psychiatrists and public mental health services. These arrangements
facilitate joint service provision to meet the treatment and support
needs of an individual with a mental illness.
