New online food safety learning program
9 February 2010
Safe food is fundamental to good public health. While excellent formal courses for food handlers exist, there are very few resources that make reliable food safety information freely available to food handlers and the public.
Recognising this gap, the Department of Health's Food Safety and Regulation Unit has developed a free online food safety learning program to better inform food handlers and all Victorians about how to handle food safely.
The new interactive 'Do Food Safely' program is available at dofoodsafely.health.vic.gov.au.
The course was principally designed for people who want to work in the food service industry, but is suitable for anyone that prepares food and covers topics including:
- safe food storage
- cleaning and sanitising food preparation areas
- preventing food contamination, and
- personal hygiene for food handlers.
The whole course takes around an hour to complete, but you can complete individual units at your own pace. Participants can print a certificate as a record of their successful participation.
The program is informative and fun. We encourage you, and your family, to log on and test your food safety knowledge.
