Doors open at new Belmont Ambulance Station

29 August 2010
Today was the official opening of the new Belmont Ambulance Station which will service residents in Geelong's southern suburbs.
The $3.6 million new facility provides high-quality modern accommodation for paramedics working in the region and allows for the relocation of Ambulance Victoria's regional Geelong office to the new station.
The new state-of-the-art facility will ensure local paramedics are better equipped to respond to critical medical emergencies in and around the Geelong area.
The Belmont branch has more than 15 paramedics and provides 24-hour coverage serving the communities of Belmont, Waurn Ponds, Grovedale and Highton and surrounding areas.
The new branch building is a purpose-built and environmentally-friendly facility with a six-bay garage and office facilities to run regional training and meetings.
It also features water tanks reticulated through the toilets and land irrigation, drought tolerant planting, double glazing and window shading, solar hot water units, sensor-operated energy efficient lighting and cycle racks.
The new facility forms part of a range of upgrades aimed at improving ambulance services in the Barwon South Region.
This includes new or upgraded ambulance services at Torquay, Ocean Grove, Lorne, Norlane, Lara, Timboon, Anglesea, Apollo Bay, Hamilton and a new single Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) responder unit in Geelong.
