Health advice you can take anywhere

The Department of Health’s Better Health Channel has launched a free iPhone and iPad app to help Victorians

21 September 2011

The Department of Health's Better Health Channel has launched a free iPhone and iPad app to help Victorians take control of their health and wellbeing anytime, anywhere

The mobile app builds on the quality information Victorians have come to expect from the award winning Better Health Channel, by delivering only the best health and medical advice.

The app delivers comprehensive, reliable and easy to understand information – all of which has been quality assured by medical experts.

The Better Health Channel app enables Victorians to search, find and browse health information as well as locate an extensive range of health services.

Easy access to information

Health consumers can search for conditions by category, body part, or with the helpful A-Z index. The information can then be sent onto friends and family.

Finding a health service

The app's find a health service function allows users to quickly locate and view detailed directions to doctors, dentists, pharmacists, physiotherapists and a wide range of other health service providers. Users can search by their current location, by suburb or by postcode and can add preferred providers to their phone favourites.

Urgent medical matters

The help and advice function gives users a quick list of important health contacts including Nurse on Call, Kids helpline, poisons information and Lifeline.

First aid information

The app reduces the worry and uncertainty about what to do when accidents happen by providing first aid procedures to a range of common injuries. From bites and burns to heat stroke and hypothermia, the Better Health Channel mobile app provides the right information at the right time.

The Better Health Channel has received a number of awards and was recently named the number one health and medical information website by Hitwise Australia.
