CFA goes mobile for fire season

With the fire season approaching, the Country Fire Authority (CFA) has launched a new mobile friendly website allowing Victorians to access critical emergency information on the go.
The CFA mobile website and CFA FireReady smartphone application allow users to easily access timely and accurate information on just about any mobile device with internet access.
Developed by CFA Technology Services, the mobile website displays key CFA pages including warnings and advice, incidents, fire danger ratings, total fire ban and the Victorian Bushfire Information Line.
As the site is designed specifically for standard mobile phones with internet access it will load faster and consume less data than accessing the main CFA website. Information will also be easier to view and navigate on a smaller screen.
In combination with the recently upgraded CFA FireReady iPhone application and the soon-to-be-released Blackberry and Android mobile applications, it provides the community with better access than ever before to CFA warnings and other emergency information.
More than 5,000 people have already downloaded the iPhone application that allows users to view Fire Danger Ratings, Total Fire Bans, warnings and fire locations.
For those who live or travel in high bushfire risk areas, these new mobile applications provide an important means for users to keep up-to-date with weather conditions and warnings on days of high fire risk.
