Review of the 2010-11 Flood Warnings and Response

12 July 2011
On 30 June 2011, the Review of the 2010–11 Flood Warnings and Response Interim Report was provided to Premier Ted Baillieu.
The interim report provides an account of the Victorian Floods Review’s progress made to date, an indication of the future work program and an outline of the key themes and issues that have emerged during the course of work undertaken.
On 8 February 2011, the government announced a comprehensive review of flood warnings and emergency response efforts be undertaken in the wake of severe flooding across Victoria in 2010–11.
The review, led by Mr Neil Comrie AO APM, former Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police and current Bushfires Royal Commission Implementation Monitor, is examining aspects of flood response and recovery, emergency warnings and evacuations.
To date, the review has undertaken extensive consultation with communities, local government and other government agencies through operational debriefs.
As part of its consultation and research, the review has conducted 17 community consultation meetings in flood-affected areas across Victoria between March and June, and has received more than 150 written submissions from individuals and organisations, addressing the review’s terms of reference.
In accordance with the review’s terms of reference, the final report of the review will be presented to the Premier on 1 December 2011.
The review findings will help guide the government’s response and planning to ensure Victoria is better equipped to deal with similarly severe flooding events in the future.
