Frankston Hospital expansion commitment

29 April 2011
The Victorian Government has committed $36 million towards the redevelopment and expansion of Frankston Hospital.
Visiting Frankston Hospital today with Minister for Health David Davis, Premier Ted Baillieu said the 2011-12 Budget commitment would provide local families with 64 extra medical and surgical beds and expanded critical care services.
“This investment in more beds and critical care services will enable Frankston Hospital to treat nearly 5000 additional patients each year,” Mr Baillieu said.
Frankston Hospital had been operating at or beyond its physical capacity, and acute inpatient bed utilisation had been regularly above 100 per cent occupancy.
Health Minister, David Davis, said hospital staff will be able to provide more efficient and effective inpatient care and patient accommodation because of this funding.
The upgraded facilities are scheduled for completion by December 2013, with the facility to be operational by early 2014.
The enhancement of critical care services for the Frankston and Peninsula community will include two extra intensive care beds and two special care nursery cots.
The development is a milestone for health services on the Mornington Peninsula. As one of the fastest-ageing communities in Victoria, the funding will increase the hospital's ability to meet the region's growing health demands.
