New hospital performance website goes live

30 June 2011
Victorians now have access to more information than ever before to help them measure how the state’s public hospitals are performing.
The Health Services Performance website allows the community to go online and compare how hospitals are delivering services and to make informed choices on where to get treatment.
The website uses publicly reported data, along with financial and other service information to monitor the health system and individual hospitals. It provides the community with the opportunity to make their own judgments about where their own health needs are best served.
People will also be able to track elective surgery median waiting times for selected procedures at individual hospitals, and make informed choices about where they should look at going for their operations.
The new website will also show which hospital emergency departments are on bypass at any time, and which have activated the Hospital Early Warning System as a possible precursor to bypass.
People whose injury or condition is non-urgent, will be able to log onto the Victorian Public Emergency Department Status website and see how long they can expect to wait for emergency department treatment in different hospitals at various times of the day.
