RCH staff exclusive first look

25 February 2011
With only nine months until the opening of the new Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH), almost 1000 staff set foot inside the world-class facilities for the first time.
The RCH Open Day held last week gave staff the opportunity of seeing firsthand their new workplace after three years of working next door to the development.
In groups of 20, leaving from the Flemington Road entry every five minutes, staff were able to visit Specialist Clinics (Outpatients), the Health Education Learning Precinct, an operating theatre, recovery, the inpatient unit, Intensive Care, research laboratories, and finally Emergency where the tour finished.
The 90 minute tour gave staff a first hand opportunity to see where they will be working, and view other areas they may not get to see after the building opens.
About the project
The new Royal Children's Hospital will combine new facilities, innovative models of care and leading edge research and education to provide the best health care and environment for patients, families and staff.
The new hospital will be located next door to the existing hospital in Parkville, Victoria’s largest medical, research, education and technology precinct. Construction is running to schedule and the new hospital will open in late 2011.
