To celebrate International Women's Day 2012, Health and Human Services Emergency Management is staging a free half-day forum titled: ‘Women and Emergencies’.
Developed in partnership with the Victorian Government's Office of Women's Policy, Women's Health Goulburn North East, and the Red Cross, the forum will be facilitated by popular media personality Dr Sally Cockburn.
The forum, which will be held at the Treasury Theatre, will include:
- an address by Andrea Coote, Victorian Parliamentary Secretary for Families and Community Services
- a keynote address by the respected emergency management academic Doctor Elaine Enarson from the University of Denver, USA
- two panel discussions featuring high-profile local and international emergency management practitioners; Sue Mitchell, Esmie Sinapa, Professor Ed Blakely, Jannette Dines, Craig Lapsley and Deb Parkinson.
The event will appeal to emergency management practitioners, policy makers and academics from local, state, national and international agencies who are keen to learn how to better understand and address the unique impacts of emergencies on women.
Note that despite the forum's gender specific theme, men are encouraged to attend.
