Melbourne Award for youth project

Alcohol and drug service Youth Projects has received the 2010 Melbourne Award for outstanding contribution to community.
The Melbourne Awards celebrate people and organisations whose vision and hard work shape the city, focusing on people and organisations that go above and beyond the call of duty.
The award recognises the Youth Projects Living Room, a Department of Health-supported primary health service in Hosier Lane, which provides innovative programs to assist homeless and marginalised people in Melbourne.
Staffed by a team of doctors, nurses, community development workers, allied health professionals, a psychologist and mental health nurse, the Living Room provides a holistic approach to support.
The award highlights the unique and complex work of the agency in addressing issues of homelessness, alcohol and drug use and mental health.
The Living Room is at the forefront in HIV/AIDS prevention and the use of art, film, sport, nutrition and digital inclusion programs to support the homeless.
Youth Projects has been operating for 25 years in Melbourne’s north and west and was Melbourne’s first specialist youth alcohol and drug service.
Youth Projects provides a non-judgmental service with a strong focus on harm minimisation and works with clients on a personalised, tailored basis to address complex issues.
