The Victorian Quality Council (VQC) is responsible for fostering better quality health services in Victoria by working with stakeholders to develop useful tools and strategies to improve health service safety and quality. The VQC website contains information, publications and resources to assist in improving quality and safety in healthcare.

The Design Guidelines for Hospitals and Day Procedure Centres are used by the Department to assess the suitability of the design of private hospitals and day procedure centres.

Police check
Where a police check is required for an application relating to a private hospital or day procedure centre, a National Police Certificate must have been obtained from Victoria Police within the past 6 months. Please visit Victoria Police website for further information and the application form.
- Please do not send applications for National Police Certificates to the Department of Health.

Legislation
Private hospitals and day procedure centres are primarily regulated under Part 4 of the Health Services Act 1988 (Vic) and the Health Services (Private Hospitals and Day Procedure Centres) Regulations 2002.
Proprietors should ensure that they are familiar with the requirements of both the Act and the Regulations which can be downloaded from the Victorian Legislation and Parliamentary Documents website.
