Overview

Board members are encouraged to begin with a Foundation workshop which combines general skills for good governance with insight into health specific governance.

The Foundation workshop aims to:

  • Clarify the roles and accountabilities of board members in providing effective governance of their agencies.
  • Develop the capacity of individual board members to:
    • Understand the governance challenges that are inherant in the health system in which their agencies operate
    • Understand how best to provide strategic direction
    • Understand how to achieve optimal performance and manage risk.
  • Strengthen the capacity of boards to operate as high performing teams.
  • Improve how boards work with their management team.
  • Provide networking opportunities between boards.

Foundation workshops run over two days, generally a consecutive Friday and Saturday, with a dinner on the Friday night including a guest speaker from the Department of Human Services.
