Key messages
- The use of ice (crystal methamphetamine) is a growing problem in Victoria, especially for young adults.
- The Ice Action Plan contains a number of treatment and support measures for people who use ice, their families and communities.
- The Ice Action Plan also contains support to build workforce capacity to ensure Victoria’s workers have the protection, training and support they need to respond confidently to people using ice.
Victoria's Ice Action Plan delivers strategies and funding to reduce the supply, demand and harm of ice.
The plan has been developed on the advice of the Ice Action Taskforce and builds on the Victorian Parliament's landmark 2014 inquiry into the supply and use of methamphetamines.
The plan is supported by a framework to help government, service providers and the community to work together to deliver a coordinated and effective response to ice.
The plan addresses urgent issues, including more support for families, expanding drug treatment services, protecting frontline workers, closing down manufacturers and making communities safer.
Other initiatives being implemented as part of the Ice Action Plan include educational support for people at risk and more police and forensic capabilities.
