Statewide design, service and infrastructure plan for Victoria’s health system 2017-2037

The Statewide Design, Service and Infrastructure Plan for Victoria's Health System 2017-2037 provides the planning framework that will guide service, workforce and infrastructure investment in our health system over the next 20 years, including an initial five year implementation plan.

By setting a clear direction and priorities for design of our future health system, administrators and clinicians will be better supported to provide world class health care that meets growing and changing demand and delivers better outcomes for all Victorians.

As the fastest growing State in this country, it is critical that we are planning now for the health system Victorians need, deserve and expect.

The plan will foster better, joined up planning with communities and across government and sectors - by linking to Metropolitan and Regional Partnership processes, as well as locally by connecting health services, local government, community health services, Primary Health Networks, Aboriginal Community-Controlled Health services and other service sectors.

Key elements of the Statewide Plan are:

Section 1 - describes our outlook on the future system including system design principles

Section 2 - establishes 5 priorities that will chart our path towards the future system and initial actions

• Building a proactive health system that anticipates demand
• Creating a safety and quality led system
• Integrating care across the health and social service system
• Strengthening regional and rural health services
• Investing in the future -- the next generation of healthcare

Section 3 - describes our current infrastructure pipeline over the next 5 years

The Statewide Plan will be operationalised through planning for specific localities and major service streams, as well as the progressive development of a system role delineation framework including capability frameworks and formalised service networks.
