Smile Squad staff are qualified to provide a wide range of dental care in a variety of settings. They have training and experience working with children in schools. Your friendly Smile Squad team will work hard to ensure that every child has a positive experience with Smile Squad, and that dental care meets each child’s individual needs.
Dental assistants
Dental assistants support dental therapists, oral health therapists and dentists to carry out a variety of administrative tasks and help prepare students for their check-up or treatment.
Dental therapists and oral health therapists
Dental therapists and oral health therapists are both trained to provide the dental health check-ups and many of the follow-up treatments included in Smile Squad. They provide oral health assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management and preventative services for children and young people.
They work with all members of the dental team, including dentists. Oral health therapists have an additional qualification in dental hygiene and can carry out tasks such as complex scaling and cleaning of teeth.
Dentists and specialists
Dentists specialise in the treatment of conditions affecting the mouth, teeth, jaws and gums. They provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management and preventative services.
Dentists and dental specialists will provide more complex treatments (such as root canals or complex extractions, as required).
In addition, Bachelor of Oral Health students may provide some services under the full supervision of oral health therapists.
All Smile Squad staff are registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Association
