Chief Psychiatrist's Quality and Safety Bulletins

The Chief Psychiatrist issues quarterly quality and safety bulletins to provide specialist advice on clinical practice issues raised by clinical mental health and wellbeing services. It provides a mechanism to feedback to the sector and support good clinical governance and continuous improvement.

Chief Psychiatrist guidelines

The Chief Psychiatrist issues clinical guidelines to provide specialist advice on various aspects of clinical service and to inform mental health practitioners and services about the operation and clinical issues in relation to the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022.

Chief Psychiatrist’s annual report

The Chief Psychiatrist’s annual reports analyse data on clinical practices and incidents that the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist monitors each year. It also summarises the support that services, consumers and carers receive from the office to promote quality and safety in Victoria’s mental health and wellbeing system.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 - Compliance implications for clinical mental health and wellbeing services

From 1 September 2023, clinical mental health and wellbeing services have new reporting obligations to the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist. They are also required to adhere to an expanded set of rights-based principles emphasising supported decision-making, dignity and autonomy.
