Surgical services

Approximately 170,000 Victorians have elective surgery in the public health system each year.

The Statewide Surgical Services Program liaises with health services and key stakeholders to improve surgical services for all Victorians.

The program assists with researching, developing and disseminating strategic directions and policies to improve the provision of public hospital surgical services.

A number of policies and resources are available for improving the provision of surgical services in Victorian public hospitals.

Surgical services research and reviews

Expert, evidence-based surgical research assists in the development of health policy and supports Victorian hospitals, clinicians and consumers.

Victorian audit of surgical mortality

The Victorian Audit of Surgical Mortality is a systematic peer-review audit of deaths associated with surgical care.
