About the Royal Commission

The Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System published its final report in 2021. It set out an ambitious vision to reform Victoria’s mental health system.

The final report includes 65 recommendations in addition to nine interim recommendations made in 2019.

More than 12,500 contributions from people with lived experience, the workforce, researchers, service providers and other experts informed the findings of the Royal Commission and the development of its recommendations.

The Victorian Government has made a commitment to deliver on every recommendation.

Acknowledging our partners in reform

The Department of Health recognises the strength of people living with trauma, neurodiversity, mental ill health, and substance use or addiction, and their families, carers, and supporters, and remembers those who have been lost to suicide.

We acknowledge the many individuals and organisations who contributed their time, stories, experience, and wisdom to guide and contribute to the reform program.

We recognise the workforce, service providers, clinicians, allied health workers, community organisations, educators and others who have a critical role to play in contributing to system reform.
