Department of Health

Transforming Victoria's mental health and wellbeing system is a collective effort.

Across the reform program the changes to our system are multiple, complex and ongoing. They require consultation, engagement, co-design, and co-delivery to ensure we establish systems and services that reflect evolving community needs and expectations.

The expertise of people with lived experience is at the centre of our work. Our programs feature deep engagement of people with personal experience of mental ill-health and recovery, family members and carers, members of Victoria’s Aboriginal communities, people from multicultural communities, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, women, young people and older Australians.

Members of the workforce, service providers, clinicians, allied health workers, community organisations and academics have a critical role to play in contributing to the reform of the system.

Thousands of Victorians have contributed to the development of landmark reform programs through surveys, workshops, interviews and advisory groups. Opportunities to participate are promoted via social media, website news and partner organisations.

Advisory Committees

The mental health and wellbeing reform is guided by a structure of advisory committees.

The Mental Health Ministerial Advisory Committee provides strategic guidance to the Victorian Government on mental health reform priorities and advocates for system transformation, service improvement and better consumer outcomes.

Two subcommittees support the Mental Health Ministerial Advisory Committee: the Interdisciplinary Clinical Advisory Group and the Lived Experience Strategic Partnership.

The Interdisciplinary Clinical Advisory Group offers strategic guidance on the mental health reform agenda with advice, diverse sector views and technical expertise and the Lived Experience Strategic Partnership advocates for better consumer, family and carer outcomes while providing strategic guidance on the reform agenda.
