The Victorian State Budget 2023-24 invested $35 million in funding in 11 Aboriginal Community-Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) to be delivered over four years.

This initiative, called the ‘Strengthening Lifelong Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing of Aboriginal Victorians’ initiative focused on creating more urgent pathways to deliver culturally informed and prevention-focused health care.

The initiative and its implementation were co-designed with community with ACCHO recipients supported to determine where the funding would be most effectively and strategically used based on their specific communities' health needs.

This critical funding has enabled ACCHOs to expand their workforce, including nurses, general practitioners, support workers and drivers to reduce barriers and improve access to health care.

We visited the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) in Fitzroy to hear about the first six months of the initiative's implementation. Watch the video to hear about its impact on the community.
