Department of Health

In Victoria, the Food Act 1984 (the Act) and the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (the code) provide the regulatory framework for the food industry, ensuring that food sold in Victoria is safe, suitable and correctly labelled.

The department shares responsibility for developing and administering food regulation with the Commonwealth Government, Victorian Local Councils, PrimeSafe and Dairy Food Safety Victoria, collaborating to promote consistent regulatory requirements in a widely dispersed and varied food industry.

Introducing Standard 3.2.2A

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has gazetted a new standard in the Code, ‘Standard 3 2.2A Food safety management tools’ (the Standard). The Standard will become part of the Code and Australian food law for some Victorian food retail and food service businesses on 8 December 2023. For more information see Introducing Standard 3.2.2A.
