Mosquito and mosquito-borne disease surveillance report

This surveillance report for the 2024/25 mosquito season began in November 2024 and is updated weekly on Wednesdays.

The report below presents data on mosquito surveillance and notified cases of mosquito-borne diseases in Victoria.

This report contains a range of indicators relating to mosquito-borne diseases actively monitored by the department. The indicators used in these reports are sourced from the following surveillance systems:

  • Mosquito surveillance (adult mosquitoes)
  • Human surveillance (notified confirmed and probable cases of mosquito-borne disease)

Mosquito surveillance is conducted throughout the Victorian mosquito breeding season each year and is undertaken by local councils on behalf of the Department of Health. Human case data is related to notifications from medical practitioners and laboratories and may not always reflect the current rate of mosquito-borne diseases.

This report is updated weekly with information collected in the week prior, noting there can be a time delay from mosquito field collection to reporting.
