Key messages

  • From 1 January 2025, the regulation of Assisted Reproductive Treatment (ART) and management of Victoria's donor conception registers transferred from the Victorian Reproductive Treatment Authority (VARTA) to the Department of Health (the Department) under the Health Legislation Amendment (Regulatory Reform) Act 2024.
  • Open applications to the Voluntary Register or Central Register submitted to VARTA prior to 1 January 2025 have been transferred to the Department's Donor Conception Register team for processing.
  • New applications from 1 January 2025 should be submitted using the relevant Department of Health application form and submitted directly to the Donor Conception Register team.
  • During this transition period the Department will work to minimise impacts on registry applicants however there will be some delays in processing applications.
  • The existing information and resources on the VARTA website will remain available until 30 June 2025, while content is transferred to the Department of Health's websites.
  • For further information on these changes, please email the Donor Conception Register team at dcr@health.vic.gov.au.
