Review of Cemeteries and Crematoria Regulations 2015

Consultation now closed

The Cemeteries and Crematoria Regulations 2015, made under the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2003, outline key regulatory requirements for public cemeteries. These cover how public cemeteries are managed, cared for and protected.

The current Regulations will expire on 16 June 2025 unless they are replaced. To prepare, the Department of Health is reviewing them and considering updates.

In January we published a discussion paper to get feedback. The paper asked if the Regulations still met community needs and looked for ideas to improve them.

The consultation period for the discussion paper closed on 12 February 2025. A total of 31 submissions were received with feedback on the proposed Regulations from stakeholders and the community.

The review will continue until the new set of Regulations are made by 15 June 2025.
