Department of Health

The Victorian Cost Data Collection (VCDC) provides a comprehensive dataset of patient level cost information across health services in Victoria. The VCDC supports health service planning, policy formulation and public hospital funding under the casemix system.

Victorian public hospitals are required to report costs for all hospital activity, regardless of funding source, and are expected to maintain patient level costing systems that monitor service provision to patients and determine accurate patient-level costs.

Documentation

The VCDC documentation is to assist costing practitioners to identify and attain all the relevant information for costing purposes and reporting requirements for any submission year. It also provides other interested parties with an overview of the structure and content of the collection.
